We took a road trip (locksmithing) on Saturday to Cathedral City near Palm Springs....it was really hot up there..I took a lot of photos + the agent wanted us to take photos of the house for him which we did.....when we got home, Alan took out the memory card and when he put it back in...all my photos were gone!
Just a little frustrating...if we find them, I will be sure to post several shots I got of Mt. San Jacinto with snow on it....in the foreground are horses....another shot was of the windmills....
The above photo is one I found.....its a date palm which is very common in the Palm Springs area....they even serve date shakes! and there are roadside stands where you can purchase all types of dates, nuts, grapefruit, etc.
We thought we were going to be rekeying a house near a golf course and we did, but it wasn't what we expected....it was a old desert house (1960s?) with a huge backyard of sand.....it was so hot working in there...I think it must have been over 100 degrees. Cathedral City and Palm Springs are cities of great contrast...you have multi million dollar homes and just a few blocks over are very old rundown neighborhoods.....sparkling pools, palm trees, green golf courses, and then dry sandy backyards with rusting cars..when I say sand, I mean beach type sand with rocks and cactus.
We both starting feeling weak and sick, so as soon as we finished, we drove to where we could get cooled off a bit and got a cold drink. Alan parked the van in the shade, we opened all the windows and got a cool breeze as the day was winding down...evenings in the desert are wonderful....neither of us wanted to go inside anywhere as they keep things too cold...too much of a shock when you are as hot as we were.
We were both really happy to get back home! I hope we don't get too many jobs in the desert...this is only the second time......the AC in the van doesn't seem to be working which made it hard and it was very very windy with blowing sand......
Today Alan had jobs in San Diego county, but I didn't go along....the agents he works with always meet him there so they can take their photos...

The desert is very hard to take. Some people move to the desert to escape their cold winters, only to find the summers make them ill.
ReplyDeleteThose date palms are amazing!
Hope your pictures miraculously reappear on your memory card somehow!
I can't believe it's already that hot there, Dani- but it's great that it cools off in the evening like that.
ReplyDeleteHere in Tennessee when it's July or August and 90 degrees in the daytime, it only cools down to about 78 at night! (and that's a very humid 78 degrees, too!)
