Mystery House

As I mentioned yesterday, we were called by a realtor to re key a house up north of Perris, Ca...we found it, a little hard to find...it was located on a dirt road...a little off the beaten path.....the house itself was very odd.....it looked as if it had been built upon an older foundation.....it had two front doors, about 15 ft. from each other....directly in front of one of them, was a big post with telephone and a gas company box...the wiring went directly into the house, above the door.....there was also 3 large stone pillars sitting by themselves in the front....I guess they were there when the original house stood and were never removed....the door itself was strange, the deadbolt and knob were located about two feet from the floor...very low and the door itself was small...almost hobbit like...
Alan noticed that most of the inside door frames were very short also..he almost had to lower his head to get into a room, he's 6 ft. 2 inches......
Inside, there were several rooms we couldn't understand what their purpose was..just rooms, no closets, no windows.....so they weren't bedrooms....there was a large living room, the kitchen was very small, and cramped....although the cabinets were fairly new...no dishwasher or place for a fridge....
but the strangest thing was yet to be......
as we went through the house, noting the locks....something we always do before we start work..we realized every bedroom had not only a keyed lock but a dead bolt also....each bedroom door also had a peep hole AND it was to look in, not out.......each bedroom also had a sliding lock at the top..ON THE OUTSIDE....I will leave that to your imagination..
There were two bathrooms......one was a normal one in the master bedroom. the other had a door that was an exterior front door with a regular handle set on it, not a knob...and a deadbolt.....on the outside of the door
The house was on a large piece of property.....we estimated about 5 acres....with a second mobile behind it, that we were asked to re key also.....the mobile was in very bad condition..almost not liveable....but we secured it as best we could....it also had deadbolts on the bedrooms but no peep holes...
behind the mobile..I'm not calling it a home..there were about a dozen ratty chicken coops....
The fencing around the place? They used old garage doors.
The only good thing about this house was its location..it was on a hill and had a wonderful view of mountains, trees and pastures......we both felt a little sorry for the realtor..as it will be hard to sell.......a person would almost have to tear down everything and start from scratch......
sorry I don't have any photos....Alan did some work on my computer, put in a new hard drive and I can't seem to download photos ..

  1. OH my goodness how creepy is that?! I wonder who owned it and what they used it for to have the deadbolts and peepholes, whatever it was it sounds very strange indeed!!!

  2. goodness - does sound more than a bit bizarre - one would think it was a house of ill repute but anymore - you never know what does go on behind closed (and deadbolted) doors!

  4. Very weird. I read a lot of mystery novels and it sounds like this house could be featured in one. Really like your lamb header.

  5. Good grief. That's creepy - must be something illegal, that's all I have to say. I think the realtor should have the police come and take a look - they might be able to relate it to some criminal activity. At first I thought maybe it was for very small people with the doorknobs so low, but as you went on, I decided it may be something unlawful. Let us know if you find anything out about that one!
