Thursday, Proud and Free

This was the largest re-enlistment ceremony ever held in military history..did you see this on TV? no? That's because it wasn't shown.
This was held on the 4th of July this year at Al -Faw Palace, in Baghdad, Iraq. Over 1200 military men and woman re-inlisted with General David Patraeus administering the oath. Afterwards they had pizza and Gatorade....
Several newspapers reported the event but it wasn't on television...mostly they report about the bad things that happen not the good...
Many reenlisted for the money but also because they believe in what they are doing, some are on two and three tours in a combat zone.

Wednesday Pet of the Week

This is Prima, a cute little girl who would make a great companion dog...she weighs about 9 lbs., is calm and loves to snuggle under the covers.....she is loyal and protective of her owner.
Care2 is having a contest for the best animal shelter...the winning shelter gets $10,000 ! plus they are giving away 1,000 gifts to various shelters...please vote for
the Sun City K9 Dog shelter, I have put a link on the side...no obligation on your part but that money would really help the shelter build some new warm kennels this winter..

We've had a quiet weekend....our son announced he wants to get back into baseball...when he was younger, we were very involved in Little League, Alan was a coach and Donny was a umpire...Matt was on top teams and went into the playoffs several times, he was a catcher and a pitcher but could play almost any position...as a pitcher, 12 years old, he had a wicked arm and threw balls at about 60 MPH....now he wonders how he would do at 17...he could hit too and made quite a few home runs...God has blest him with alot of athletic talent.
When we moved up here, about 4 years ago, he lost interest and let baseball have a rest until now. Fortunately we have a neighbor who is into Little League, and was on a minor team as an adult. He's taken an interest in Matt and says he can get him on a traveling team within a week or so. He says he wants to start working out and getting ready for try outs.

Our weather has been wonderful today...in the high 70s..no AC needed.....we did some yard clean up, sweeping, etc. and I trimmed our Purple Fountain grass as it was getting too large and falling over. I also worked on more journal jars which I will be listing on Etsy....my jars are very unique, no one else makes these on Ebay or Etsy and they make a nice gift......I have several photos of previous jars on my other blog so will only post one here..

This one was a western themed one with photos of old cowboys...I also decorated it with old cracker jack box toy ropes, horse shoes and a tiny pistol...bits of rope too....I am working on a similar one as well as two others....
A journal jar contains questions to help in writing a journal..over 100 that will help stir up memories...

Redecorating

HI,
Just decided to redecorate my blog a little for the fall, what do you think?

My Thoughts

I thought this might help in getting down to the issues.....with all the accusations going on, the actual issues get pushed to the side...as a Christian, although neither party is perfect, the Republican platform is closer to being more scriptural than the Democratic...just click on it to see it better...
As far as the financial crisis that has been in the news this week, each party pointing its finger at the other....kinda silly to my way of thinking, this isn't a party issue but simple human greed and bad judgment...I don't think its right for the government to bail out these banks anyway....maybe they should bail out all the little citizens who fell for these "great" deals and are losing their homes....
In the old Testament every 7 year was a year of Jubilee in which everyone debts would be forgiven...wouldn't it be great if we could do something like that now?
OOPS, I stand corrected, the Year of Jubilee was every 50 years...guess I was thinking 7X7 as it says in Leviticus 25:8 , thanks, David & Julie

I was sent this but its right on..
What Do You Think?

You couldn't get a job at McDonalds and become district manager after 143 days of experience.

You couldn't become chief of surgery after 143 days of experience of being a surgeon.

You couldn't get a job as a teacher and be the superintendent after 143 days of experience.

You couldn't join the military and become a colonel after a 143 days of experience.

You couldn't get a job as a reporter and become the nightly news anchor after 143 days of experience.

BUT....

From the time Barack Obama was sworn in as a United State Senator, to the time he announced he was forming a Presidential exploratory committee, he logged 143 days of experience in the Senate. That's how many days the Senate was actually in session and working. After 143 days of work experience, Obama believed he was ready to be Commander In Chief, Leader of the Free World .... 143 days!

We all have to start somewhere. The senate is a good start, but after 143 days, that's all it is - a start. AND, strangely, a large sector of the American public is okay with this and campaigning for him. We wouldn't accept this in our own line of work, yet some are okay with this for the President of the United States of America ?

Come on folks, we are not voting for the next American Idol!

How many dogs does it take to change a lightbulb?

Dauchshund: "You know I can't reach that darned lamp!"

Golden Retriever: "The day is young, the sun is out, and you're worried about a silly
light bulb?"

Cocker Spaniel: "Why change it? I can pee on the carpet in the dark."

Greyhound: "It doesn't move, so who cares?"

Old English Sheepdog" " light bulb?light bulb? That thing I just ate was a light bulb?!"

Rottweiler: "Go Ahead! Make me"

Lab: "Oh, me, me!!! Pleeeeeeze let me change the light bulb! Can I? Can I? Huh? Huh? Can I?

Pointer: "I see it, there it is, right there..."

Australian Shepherd:" Put all the light bulbs in a little circle.."

Border Collie: Just one. And I'll replace any wiring that's not up to code. "

Toy Poodle:" I'll just blow in the Border collie's ear and he'll do it. By the time he finishes rewiring the house, my nails will be dry."

Malamute:" Let the Border collie do it. You can feed me while he's busy."

Shi-tzu: "Puh-leeze, dah-ling. Let the servants. . . ."

Introducing Ireland, a lovely Cocker Spaniel not quite a year old....she was dropped off at the rescue by a kind soul who found her walking the street outside.....the owner was located but didn't want her. She is a lovely dog, born Nov. 27th of last year. She is very sweet, loves to play ball and gets along well with the other dogs.

Our warm weather has returned today but they say it will cool down for the rest of the week...I
noticed that the large elm tree in our front is starting to drop leaves so its getting cooler at night. We always get tons of leaves as we live at the end of the street and the wind blows them from all the other yards My son mows our lawn and it has a mulcher attachment that really eats up most of the leaves but I find it fun to rake them once in a while...makes it seem more like fall. I worked for awhile in the back, deadheading, and cleaning up the patio..I had several plants in pots that had died, annuals, so put them in the green bin..nothing more depressing than seeing dead plants
*************************************************************************************
Alan has a "lock out" scheduled today at noon....these are always sad....the sheriff has to make sure the people are out of their house and then he goes in to secure it.....we were told there was going to be as much as 5,000 foreclosures just in our area this year...I heard that Congress may vote to stop banks from foreclosing in the future....don't know how that will work.
We re keyed a house here in town over the weekend, the bank had agreed to offer the owners, cash for keys...that is, the bank gives them some money (usually several thousand) to leave, hand over the keys and leave the home in good condition....the owners took the cash and trashed the house, broke windows, smashed staircase railings, holes in walls.
I am glad we don't have our trust in banks or money..but in our Wonderful Lord and Savior.

Good thoughts

"Have you the slightest reliance on anything other than God? Is there a remnant of reliance left on any natural virtue, any set of circumstances? Are you relying on yourself in any particular in this new proposition which God has put before you?

That is what the probing means. It is quite true to say, " I cannot live a holy life," but you can decide to let Jesus Christ make you holy. "Ye cannot serve the Lord God"; but you can put yourself in the place where God's almighty power will come through you. Are you sufficiently right with God to expect Him to manifest His wonderful life in you?" - - - - Oswald Chambers. Written between the years 1911 & 1917. My Utmost for His Highest.

I found this quote in the blog, Spiritual Heritage of our Founding Fathers...if you haven't read the blog, you are in for a real thought provoking, historical treat.....so many of our dear friends are facing trials right now, and I think the Lord is preparing his people for the future...are we going to rely on the world or on Him?
As Alan and I have followed the Lord for the last 35+ years, we have tried to rely on Him and in these days, even more so....
He has never disappointed or misled us, we've had many hard times though others and He has always been there to pick up the pieces and put us back together again...older and wiser. This season is no exception...The Lord provided enough funds to pay our mortgage ...the day it was due...
We didn't have any extra $ for food, then my son paid us his rent money, and we turned in cans and bottles, + counted all our change...had almost $100 for groceries! Plus a realtor called Alan and he gave him another check...God is able as we trust and rely on Him.

A Giveaway and a new friend

Hi, I was visiting my glad tidings friend, Cyndi and she had posted about this giveaway from Karla's Korner, I was delighted to read about Karla, her ministry, and artwork...she's one busy creative lady...and of course, I signed up to perhaps win this wonderful recipe keeper, magnets, and a digital art kit...you can too, her blog, store and ministry is such a encouragement, I know you will enjoy your time there. I have bookmarked the site and plan to spend some quality time reading her posts..and visiting her other sites.... I really love her art work.

Only 8 more days until its officially fall...its cooled down alot here this week but we think its only temporary...nice though...but I've been actually cold..silly, huh? guess I am so used to the heat, anything under 70 degrees seems cold...Alan thinks I am nuts (LOL) Soon we will be wearing sweatshirts and raking leaves...lots of leaves..I rather enjoy it..
Alan was able to plant the boysenberry bush..he dug a huge hole, hard work as the ground is so hard and full of decomposed granite..we filled the hole with good rich soil to give the plant a good chance Watered it well too...I don't think berry plants are too fussy.

He got two jobs yesterday and today is a day of rest. Please pray that the Lord will provide this week as we have quite a few bills due and only about half the money to pay them..so many owe us..one realtor called over two weeks ago and said she was sending a check, have we got it? not hardly..I really do not understand as she even has on her business card a Christian fish...I hope I am not like that, talking the talk but not walking the walk.
