My Thoughts

I've been listening off and on this week to the politics....also on Etsy there is quite a few posts about Sarah Palin, lots of rumors floating around...lists of books she supposedly wanted banned (false), supposed photos of her in a bikini holding a rifle (faked), etc. ..I also looked on Snopes as it lists all the rumors floating around about all the candidates, there seems to be even more about Obama than anyone else..some of them are so mean spirited. I suppose this happens at every election and I've read that even Abraham Lincoln had many rumors and detractors so its not a new thing...will we as a people ever grow up? Guess its just human nature...gossip is one of the 7 deadly sins.
I heard this morning that the Democratic camp is stepping up mean spirited advertising against John McCain..guess they were not ready for the Republicans to become so invigorated by Sarah Palins nomination....this may shoot them in the foot with most people if they are as fed up with this type of campaigning as I am..time will tell

These moss roses are growing in our front rock garden, only flowers that are really blooming now. The ground there isn't very good and I didn't know if I could get anything to do well there besides the fountain grass.
I will be posting a great artist and prim crafter on my other blog so please click here if you'd like to continue reading..

Thursday Road Trip

Yesterday, I decided to go with Alan on a trip up to the Palm Springs area to re key a house..we hadn't been up to the low desert in quite a few years and were amazed to see how many wind mills had been put in at the west end of town as you enter on the freeway...I took these photos while in the car but you can see how huge these are...we were wondering how much energy they put out..just click on the photo to get a much larger image...

There are just thousands of these all over, on the mountain tops, all across the valleys...its quite something to see...we were amazed.

This is a photo of Mt. San Jacinto that is above Palm Springs, in early photos I have posted the same mountain looking from our direction, we live in a town on the other side...they have a tram that goes up the mountain to San Jacinto park, its been featured in Dirty Jobs and California Gold (a PBS show), we haven't been up it but plan to one day if possible.

This is the resort where we did the re key..its a gated community and has a golf course. We really liked the house, it was a 2 bedroom and right on the course. We liked it until we found out
they had a huge home owner association charge of over $500 a month + the land is leased from a Indian tribe and there is an additional yearly charge of $1500. No wonder the house has been for sale for 4 years!

This was the view out the back patio...

Another photo of the area...this town is outside of Palm Springs, its called Cathedral City.
Alan has more on his blog about our trip and you can find it here..
he made a video of the windmills.
sorry about skipping the dog of the week...it will be back next week.

Quiet day today, got one locksmith call for tomorrow..and one check in the mail....scary times...
we did some yard work today and decided to pull out some of our rose bushes that were not doing well in one part of the yard....we have a boysenberry bush in a large barrel and decided to transplant it into the ground in that area instead...maybe it will do better..I know it will spread and there is plenty of room there for it against the back fence.
I have great memories of picking my grandparents black berries on their farm as a kid...my grandma would send each of the kids, (my cousins) and I out with little pails for pie. I remember getting scratched up a little but that was all part of the fun. Grandma was a little angry with us as we had eaten more than we picked but she managed to make a pie anyway.
If you don't know, a boysen berry is a cross between a blackberry, a loganberry and a raspberry.
It was named after Rudolph Boysen who developed the berry and later Walter Knott of Knots Berry Farm fame, went on to promote and propogate it. Mr. Knot named the berry after Boysen.
We knew Rudolph Boysen's son, Robert and his wife Elsie.
I also did some dead heading of the other roses and some weeding....the weather was warm today but cooled off.

I finished another hanger cover, its a rose bouquet and the photo is posted in my other blog, the crafting one...you will find it for sale in my etsy store...its a little more than the other ones but has more work done on it and took me longer to embroider. The Blue Bird hanger covers were sold and I guess I will make another set as they are favorite of mine.
Donny was home for the weekend, he gets Sunday and Monday off every week....he had a lot of laundry to do, naturally. He seems really happy to be home and away from all the barking!

Saturday

I've been filling my Etsy store with lots of good stuff, transfers, cross stitch patterns, holiday books and I even found a large box of plastic canvas in various colors...these are all in my store so if you were thinking of making a handmade item for a loved one this Christmas, this would be a good time to do it and my prices are deeply discounted. I have a sale rack there too. I have over 50 items for you, also some hanger covers and journal jars. I have a 100% approval rating so you can buy with confidence.
Years ago, I worked various retail jobs. My favorite was working for the Lawrence Welk resort.
I was the assistant manager of the gift shop. I was fortunate to meet Mr. Welk ( an elegant man, he kissed my hand!) and many of the actors that worked in their dinner theater. It is called the Welk Resort now and a lovely place to visit north of Escondido...they have golf and vacation rentals there, time shares, etc. My older relatives used to come down for vacation and we'd always give them the "tour" of the resort. My grandpa was a big fan of Mr. Welk...although he was a bit before my time, it was a nice place to work...I wish I could work there again but its far to drive from here...about 45 minutes or so.

Our weather is still warm most days...yesterday it was over 100, can hardly not use the AC although we keep it up in the low 80s. Our climbing roses are starting to bloom again which is nice to see...they went into dormancy when it gets to a certain temperature. They bloom spring and fall so we know the fall is coming...we are looking forward to it. It stays warm here into October usually.

My Thoughts

We watched the Republican Convention for the last two days...heard Palins acceptance speach as well as McCains...and we were both in very impressed, especially with Gov. Sarah Palin's..she proved to be a strong woman with high ideals...frugal too which we appreciated...I loved it when she said she sold the corporate jet on Ebay, and drives herself to work. Her comment about the difference between hockey moms and pitbills was great...soccer mom's (I was one) are about the same.
The main objection that I have read from the far left and the far right is that she should be home with her young children and who is going to take care of them? all the while her husband and parents are standing by her side. I might as well say the same thing about Obama, who is going to take care of his children?
I read one editorial today that complained about her "beehive" hairdo...now who is being petty?
and called her family, disfunctional because her kids looked uncomfortable and how dare they have 5 children? As far as her daughter finding herself with child at 17. Frankly, it really isn't our business, is it? I mean, when Clinton was found in the Oval office with a young intern, that wasn't " supposed" to be our business either. Young love versus old lust.
I do think the young couple should have a quiet wedding and stop the voices.
Country first..., as a Christian, its God first, Family, second and Country, third....but country is in the top three. I know where they are coming from what the Country First motto...there are many on the left that have in their minds left the USA for a international global citizenship. Obama has called himself a "citizen of the world"*They have rewritten our history and are ashamed to be American...and are leaning toward for a one world government. If they lean much further, they will fall down hard.
Anyway, that is my thoughts, what are yours?

Look What I Got!

I was talking about raggedy runners in one of my crafting groups and Nancy volunteered to make me several...aren't these great? I just love them and its so nice to have something new for the fall....she said she'd be happy to make more if anyone was interested...her prices are very reasonable too for all the the work this takes. You can contact her through her blog or her ez shoppe store where she has other great handmade items...she makes the best tags and with the holiday around the corner, tags would be great for Christmas cards...

Wednesday Pet of the Week

Introducing Diamond, a toy poodle..who was given up because she is deaf and nine years old..she is a sweet girl, gentle and functions well in spite of her disability..sad that people can't treat their pets like family....I wouldn't give up a family member because they were deaf, would you? She would be a nice companion and gets along well with the other dogs..she has a sweet face, doesn't she?
Sun City K-9 Dog rescue is non-profit and takes donations...please check out their website (my son's creation) and thanks to all who have generously donated to help.

Labor Day, Sept. 1

Quiet day here...Donny has been moving stuff out to the dog rescue trailer...he's going to be moving out there for a few months......he has mixed feelings of course, always hard to leave home but he's only about 10 minutes away and can come home any time he wants to....its a good start at independence...he got his raise too and he is saving most of what he makes for the future.
We sprayed outside heavily for the ants and so far haven't seen any in the house today...
I made several salads and we are grilling hot dogs for the holiday...
*************************************************************************************
I decorated the blog a little for the fall, what do you think? Its getting cooler at night here but still warm enough during the day for the AC...from what I've read this winter will be a cold one.

Tomorrow I will be posting some lovely photos that were sent to me by email...kinda special so please be sure to check back...

Little Benji was adopted right away for those who were wondering...how could anyone resist?
