The garden is coming along with the warmer weather...we just have a few tomato seedlings. I am really tempted to go get some tomato starts as within just about 2 months our hot weather will set in...it will over 100 many days although we hope for a cooler summer...I have read about GM plants and seeds..wonder if the starts at the nursery are GM (genetically modified)..how do you find out? the nursery people don't have a clue as I've asked.....guess we will get a few as we are craving fresh tomatoes...the ones at the grocery store are tasteless.
I am sure you have noticed how much higher groceries are? I went for a milk run yesterday and noticed that the gallon container is now almost $3.45...that is up by about $1.00....used to get milk 2 for $5.00 and that is at the cheapest store in town....
we knew this would happen with the higher gas prices..... gas here is now at $4.00 a gallon....
I sure wish spring would kick in here..It is 61 outside but very very windy...so much for printing some more fabric...can't do it in the wind.
ReplyDeleteI bought 4 beautiful rose bushes to plant in front of the house and can't wait until it is warm enough.
Have a great week end Dani :)
"Organic" by definition can NOT be GM. I think tomatoes generally tend not to be GM - the results with tomatoes were bad. But you might want to check that out.
ReplyDeleteWe still have some locally owned nurseries around here that don't have the mass produced seedlings and plants. Home Depot and Lowes are the questionable ones with "Bonnie Plants" trademark, etc. I had good luck last year with ordering tomato plants through the mail. I had some heirloom tomato plants that did well until the really hot weather set in. Florida is tricky with weather and tomatoes. Cherry tomatoes do best. The yellow cherry ones withstand a higher temperature, too.
ReplyDeleteWe had wild weather all week. Trees are down everywhere. My veggie plants survived well, though!
Bummer about the allergies. Mike and I seem to have developed a few of those too.
ReplyDeleteI don't know on garden plants, but I do know that we really love our homegrown tomatoes and peppers here in Iowa!
It was 63 today! and sunny!
Loving it!

groceries expensive everywhere - we get locally grown starts at the feed store - not sure how you'd know other than the variety listed on the little tag.
ReplyDeleteDani you might call your county extension service. They are knowledgeable about farming and home garden and would likely be able to answer your questions.

Seems like all the food is higher. We are paying $3.50 for gas but it seems to change daily.
ReplyDeleteI can't understand why zucchini is so high -- it is a prolific grower!
