I haven't gone on a real road trip in some time...had to stay home while all the garage construction was going on....but finally, found time to go with the big guy on a very long road trip to Calixico, Ca.....Calixico is smack dab on the Californian/Mexico border....in fact, its actually two cities in one with a fence between them..Calixico on one side and Mexicalli on the other.
We drove on interstate 8 which runs through the southern most part of the country....it is also a 3 hour trip each way...187 miles in one direction...so was a full day of driving. This was to do one job, re keying a escrow house....
I had never been to this part of California before...to get to Calixico which is in the Imperial Valley...you have to drive through the Laguna Mountains....the interstate goes through winding roads, switching in one section every few yards from San Diego county to Imperial county.....this area has heavily rocky mountains...I thought our hills had rocks...these mountains are almost entirely made up of rocks....
Some very pretty vistas here and there..looking out into hidden valleys
We saw several RV parks..and roads going off into intriguing byways....made us both want to come back again and do exploring........coming down out of the mountains..you drive onto a flat desert plain..Imperial County...
Imperial County is known for its rich agricultural farm land...and grows crops including lots of alfalfa hay...if you have farm animals and buy hay...it might have come from here...
I don't want to make this post too long so will continue our road trip tomorrow...took tons of photos...
I also have another review to do soon....a hint....

I'm so glad I could come along on your road trip via pictures. You are right --- LOTS of rocks!!!! Do you think they had to clear that many rocks out of the vally to make those beautiful farmlands???? What a job that would be! Your trip today makes me want to get in the car and just. . . GO! Anywhere!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful trip! Your weather is so lovely. It stormed here today! But on a positive note, flowers are coming up and spring is just around the corner!
