Friday

This is one of the spring things I am working on...I used the wrong kind of fabric though and it stretches too much so won't be selling this one...I sure like the pattern though....
below is the other kitty I posted about yesterday....her name is Elsie Katt.....

She has a vintage tea towel as a chemise dress with a bit of lace for a shawl....rusty wire whiskers and old button eyes......I had a blast making these......

My favorite thing to do is embroider and especially redwork......I only have one set of redwork towels in my etsy shop right now..sold the other 4 sets...

We finished our Christmas clean up yesterday..took down the tree...and the outside lights...a bit of a job...I did alot of vaccuming .I moved the little plant stand into the living room by the side window so the plants can get more light.....before Christmas, .our oldest son gave me a huge box full of potted house plants..including this peace lily...and pothos ..of course, the primitive cats had to come along too......

In the evening, our youngest son and his girlfriend took over the kitchen and cooked up a storm..made Dad his favorite Beef Stroganoff and salad.....cleaned up too..I felt like I was having a birthday ......they wouldn't even let me in the kitchen...our oldest son dropped by and gave Dad a 1/2 gallon of his favorite sugar free ice cream and some sugar free chocolates for dessert.(.so far I haven't found a good sugarfree cake recipe.)....so no birthday cake (sadness) but Alan didn't mind..ice cream is one of his passions which he doesn't get often....he got alot of nice cards and emails too.....thanks so much everyone.....alot of people on Facebook wished him well which surprised him to no end.....and was a blessing.....

I've been working on some spring embroidery....pastel colors and lightness.....I will post when I get them finished....I finished one and painted a frame for it...I'm going to frame today if I can manage it.....
My prayers go out to all of you in the cold and snow....I know how wearing it can be when its so cold day after day...pretty at first but then as the days go on, more and more dreary....we are blessed to be in a warmer climate....its chilly here but nothing like what the midwest and east coast is experiencing.....our night time temps are in the high 20s and 30s..day time is in the 70s.
I was looking out the front window yesterday, watching the neighbor kids riding bikes and skateboarding..wondering if they realize how lucky they are.

I got a couple of comments about the dolls..I made those last year......went through a primitive period...I call them Albert and Emma Katt.....they have a sister doll also that is in the hallway..I'll post a photo of her tomorrow.........

How to Give a Cat a pill

1) Pick cat up and cradle it in the crook of your left arm as if holding a baby. Position right forefinger and thumb on either side of cat's mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand. As the cat opens mouth pop pill into mouth. Allow cat to close mouth and swallow.

2) Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa. Cradle cat in left arm and repeat process.

3) Retrieve cat from bedroom, and throw soggy pill away.

4) Take new pill from foil wrap, cradle cat in left arm holding rear paws tightly with left hand. Force jaws open and push pill to back of mouth with right forefinger. Hold mouth shut for a count of ten.

5) Retrieve pill from goldfish bowl and cat from top of wardrobe. Call spouse from garden.

6) Kneel on floor with cat wedged firmly between knees, hold front and rear paws. Ignore low growls emitted by cat. Get spouse to hold head firmly with one hand while forcing wooden ruler into mouth. Drop pill down ruler and vigorously rub cat's throat.

7) Retrieve cat from curtain rail, get another pill from foil wrap. Make a note to buy new ruler and repair curtains. Carefully sweep shattered figurines and vases from hearth and set to one side for gluing later.

8) Wrap cat in large towel and get spouse to lie on cat with head just visible from below armpit. Put pill in end of drinking straw, force mouth open with pencil and blow down drinking straw.

9) Check label to make sure pill is not harmful to humans, drink 1 beer to take taste away. Apply Band-Aid to spouse's forearm and remove blood from carpet with cold water and soap.

10) Retrieve cat from neighbor's shed. Get another pill. Open another beer. Place cat in cupboard and close door onto neck to leave head showing. Force mouth open with dessert spoon. Flick pill down throat with elastic band.

11) Fetch screwdriver from garage and put cupboard door back on hinges. Drink beer. Fetch bottle of scotch. Pour shot, drink. Apply cold compress to cheek and check records for date of your last tetanus jab. Apply whiskey compress to cheek to disinfect. Toss back another shot. Throw tee-shirt away and fetch new one from bedroom.

12) Ring fire brigade to retrieve the friggin' cat from tree across the road. Apologize to neighbor who crashed into fence while swerving to avoid cat. Take last pill from foil wrap.

13) Tie the little @#!*#^~!'s front paws to rear paws with garden twine and bind tightly to leg of dining room table, find heavy duty Pruning gloves from shed. Push pill into mouth followed by large piece of fillet steak. Be rough about it. Hold head vertically and pour 2 pints of water down throat to wash pill down.

14) Consume remainder of Scotch. Get spouse to drive you to the emergency room, sit quietly while doctor stitches fingers and forearm and removes pill remnants from right eye. Call furniture shop on way home to order new table.

15) Arrange for SPCA to collect mutant cat from hell and ring local pet shop to see if they have any hamsters.

DOG:
Wrap pill in bacon, cheese or peanut butter. Make him beg. Toss in the air.

Thanks, Kay for sending me this...its true..its true......we watch one of Don's rescue dogs on weekends and he will eat in one gulp just about anything.....the cats on the other hand...........

Valentines

Here's another of the Valentine postcards....just love the drawings.....the little boy must have fallen as his pants are torn out at the knee...so cute!

I took the village down yesterday and will be working on the tree today.....lots of ornaments to put away.....phew! Alan is going to work on the outside lights as the day warms up....it got very cold (for us) last night in the 30s.....
what was little odd..our next door neighbor was cleaning out her garage yesterday afternoon, when cars started coming by so she ended up having a garage sale at 4:00 in the afternoon on New Years day.....she made almost $80.00 in an hour....maybe this will start a new trend? Yard sales on holidays?

New Years

I didn't stay up for the New Years celebration..couldn't keep my eyes open.....not a night owl any more..but Alan did and he said there was quite a party down the street..lots of hooping and fireworks at midnight...music too.......I was oblivious, sound asleep..
We watched the Rose parade this morning, and remembering the times we've gone up to Pasadena....it was fun but cold..we left here at 3 a.m. and it takes about an hour and a half to get to Pasadena...everyone was bundled up, carrying folding chairs, coolers, and the like....you kinda camp out on the street..or you can buy a seat on the bleachers..everyone was in a festive mood......some people had come the day before and got the choice locations. I especially like the bands and all the young people marching...so proud that their school or organization had been selected. The floats are gorgeous..so much prettier than on TV.....

I am working on putting some things into my Etsy Inspiration shop..I've had it closed for the holidays.......mainly some vintage Valentine postcards.....I will get them scanned, I think but wanted to show you one that I took a photo of..I've collected Valentine postcards for some time..
all my cards are in excellent to very good condition...

This one reminds me of the Campbells soup kids....I especially love their shoes..!

We watched the second new movie..Julie and Julia..I really loved it and cracked up when I spied the 99 cent chef's version..... thought you might like it too...he does mention later that he usually uses real butter but the 99 cent store didn't have any the day they filmed...he did use the real deal for the video......we prefer real butter also and use it sparingly..I think its much better and healthier.....
I've never been to the Hollywood Farmers Market but it looks fun from the video....doesn't it? There is supposed to be one in Temecula, not too far from us but haven't gone to that one either..guess I lead a sheltered life......there was one here but it sadly closed down last year......the Hollywood one must be a nightmare for parking......traffic in that area is terrible anyway from our experience....the Temecula one looks promising though...parking there is much better.......plus they are open two days a week and in the Old Town area with interesting thrift and antique shops. How much fun would that be?

Its that time of year again when I have to mention the Bible Gateway's reading plan...if you've always wanted to read the Bible through but didn't have the time...this is a wonderful way to start.....the plan starts on Jan. 1st and they will email you a selection every day...
I have the selections on the side of my blog every day plus, if you click the tiny little speaker under the selection..you can hear it read.
Todays is especially comforting scripture....."Let not your heart be troubled.."

My Blog Spark

I signed up some time ago to belong to Blog Spark...it belongs to General Mills and you get free coupons for items if you promise to blog about them. free coupons, information and coupon link have all been provided by General Mills through My Blog Spark ...I got 4 free coupons for cereal last week and just got my 4 boxes....I chose two boxes for my 18 year old and two for me...he got Reeses Puffs and Cinnamon Toast Crunch...I got Honey Nut Cherrios and Fiber One.....
I have never tried the Fiber One so had it this morning...I can say it was very good....I don't like overly sweet cereals and this one was just right....it has nuts and raisins in the variety I chose.
I've been trying to lose weight and have to confess I often skip breakfast..I am just not a breakfast person but this might change my mind...the calorie content is fairly low and its seems to be filling.....I have lost about 10 lbs so far so am on the right track.Anything that keeps me from getting hungry and low calorie is a winner....
it will be interesting to see what they offer next.....it was fun having the clerk ring these up and then putting$ 00 behind them....we did have to do them all separately and the women who was behind us in line was amazed.
